Młyńska Island – the green heart of Bydgoszcz
Młyńska Island is one of the most picturesque and atmospheric places in Bydgoszcz – a green enclave in the very center of the city, surrounded by the waters of the Brda River and its Młynówka branch. Historically, it was one of the city’s most important industrial centers, and today it combines recreational, cultural, and tourist functions, delighting walkers, cyclists, and history enthusiasts.
On the island, there are also the Rother Mills – former grain mills that today serve as a cultural and exhibition center, hosting exhibitions, artistic events, and meetings.
The island has a rich past – mills have existed here since the Middle Ages, and in the 17th century, one of Poland’s most important royal mints operated here. The island’s landscape also preserves historic granaries and the Leon Wyczółkowski House, which today serve museum and exhibition functions.
After revitalization, Młyńska Island has become one of the most popular spots for visitors in Bydgoszcz. Here you will find extensive parks and walking alleys, relaxation areas with water views, an amphitheater, playground, city beach, as well as cafes and meeting places. The island is connected to other parts of the city center by several pedestrian bridges, and its unique atmosphere attracts both residents and tourists.
