Our journey begins at the historic Bydgoszcz Canal, which is older than most Polish cities! It was built in 1774 and was already considered one of the greatest hydrotechnical wonders at that time.
Back then, locals reportedly couldn’t believe it was possible to dig a water route like this. There was even a rumor that it was the devil’s work. The IX Lock is located on the canal, and Park Hotel neighbors the IV Lock, hence the name of our Restaurant by the IV Lock, where we warmly invite you for dinner. We offer regional dishes, the names of which might surprise you, e.g. podpłomyk, a slice of potato bread, or dumplings with blood sausage. True Bydgoszcz delicacies.
A fun fact worth mentioning is the Imperial Hall that we have at Park Hotel. It was once part of Max Kruger’s Restaurant, where concerts, balls, and meetings of various societies were held.
And now we will prove that the Bydgoszcz Canal is not only an engineering feat but also a beautiful route full of charming bridges and old locks. Goods were once transported here from Berlin to Königsberg – but today you’re more likely to encounter an angler than a merchant with a sack of grain. Nevertheless, it’s worth learning about the amazing, legend-filled, and technically fascinating history of the Bydgoszcz Canal.
